Bangladesh stay in the moment with an eye on T20 World Cup future

"Plan wise condition dictates. Lot of the plans we want to play at the same time we want to keep one eye on the T20 World Cup and so we are trying to get our plans right for that," Hathurusingha said.

Bangladesh faced a lot of backlash after their poor performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup. The goal now will be to do better in the T20 World Cup in 2024 and speaking about the same, head coach Chandika Hathurusingha stated that the preparations will begin from the upcoming three-match series against New Zealand. The 55-year-old mentioned that the team is hopeful of playing well in the remaining 11 games before the marquee tournament, as they are aiming to identify key players, who can play a significant part in the West Indies and USA, where the tournament will be held.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have a terrible record against New Zealand on their home turf. They have never managed to win a T20I series there and hence, it will not be an easy task for the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side. Hathurusingha believes that their win over New Zealand in the final ODI of the series will boost the confidence of the players as the players will aim to repeat the same in Napier.

“We haven't won a T20 game over here. This was the same as one-day cricket but then we managed to win the last game. Certainly, it will help( ODI win over New Zealand at Napier) mentally when you have a good win always you feel good and because you have done something you want to repeat again no matter what the format is and that will give us confidence leading into the T20Is,” Hathurusingha was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Trying to get our plans right: Hathurusingha

The head coach is determined to work on their T20 World Cup plans in the New Zealand series. He mentioned of getting the right combination for the tournament, which is slated to begin in less than six months. The former cricketer also added that the goal is to play according to the conditions and plan accordingly.

“Plan wise condition dictates. Lot of the plans we want to play at the same time we want to keep one eye on the T20 World Cup and so we are trying to get our plans right for that. We got 11 games now and then the BPL as well but this is a national team so we are trying to get our combination and give the players kind of roles that they will play during the World Cup and so that's the plan,” he mentioned.
