An utterly peculiar manner of getting dismissed saw Marcus Elliott of Youth Club getting dismissed after his cell phone fell on the stumps while he was facing the third delivery against Pomonal. The match was a part of the Grampians Cricket Association Juniors Under-16s tournament which was being played at the Pomonal Recreation Reserve Ground.

The first two deliveries which Elliot faced were negated without any trouble. However, on the third delivery, his mobile phone which was unknowingly kept in his pocket while he was in the middle, fell out of his pocket onto the stumps. This, in turn, dislodged the bails which prompted the umpire to adjudge him out via hitwicket.

The hosts put Youth Club in post winning the toss. Openers, Nathan Churchill and Caleb Bretherton, put on 86 for the first wicket. However, a five-minute period which saw the side three wickets saw Elliot walk out to the crease. It was shortly after the absurd happening unfolded. Youth Club won on first innings lead after restricting the Pomonal batters to a paltry 139/5 at the end of 35 overs. Hence, they acquired 6 points.

One other fascinating aspect of the match was the number of extras both sides conceded. A total of 115 extra deliveries were bowled during the entirety of the match with 134 of the aggregated total of 334 (195 by Youth Club and 139 by Pomonal) coming in the form of extras.

This remains the first case of a mobile phone being the root cause of a dismissal. Interestingly, batters have previously trod on to the stumps due to disbalancing themselves like Inzamam-ul-Haq did against Monty Panesar while trying to jump over them. There has also been an incident in the past in which former Indian batting all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath's floppy hat fell on the stumps for him to be declared hitwicket. The one-of-a-kind incident which went down here is sure to prompt quite a lot of hilarious reactions from the cricket fraternity.
