Legendary Australia skipper Ricky Ponting reckoned that England's 'Bazball' approach left the Kangaroos "scratching the head," in the recently concluded Ashes. Ponting stated that there were a lot of discussions that happened concerning 'Bazball' and it had severely affected the Australian attack.

The tourists got off the series on a high note, winning the first two games. However, Ben Stokes and Co. staged a stunning comeback in the series and won the third game. Meanwhile, the fourth Test in Manchester ended in a draw and later England won the final game, restricting Australia to register a record win on England soil.

"The two contrasting styles of play were great to sit back and watch. There was a lot of talk about Bazball and how England would approach it, and would that style stand up against the quality of the Australian attack - looking back, it probably did," Ponting told the SEN Tassie breakfast show which is co-hosted by former Australia captain Tim Paine.

The 2-2 Ashes result was probably fair: Ponting

Ponting went on to say that Bazball left Australia searching for answers in the five-game series. He did, however, admit that the 2-2 scoreline was a fair result. He also mentioned that the controversial ball change in the fifth and final Test at The Oval in London, benefited England to end the series on a high note.

"It probably had some of the Australian players, coaches, and the captain at different times scratching their heads as to how they were going to combat it. Think the 2-2 result, albeit probably slightly biased with a bit of controversy in that last Test with the ball changed the way that it was, that gifted England some conditions they probably shouldn't have got, think the level of cricket played across the series, the 2-2 result was probably fair," the 48-year-old added.
