BBL 2022-23 comes to a conclusion after a thrilling finale between defending champions Perth Scorchers and surprise finalists Brisbane Heat. While the reigning champions were dominant throughout the group stages, winning 11 of their 14 league matches and finishing as the table toppers, Brisbane Heat sneaked into the knockout stages after finishing in fifth place.

The season saw a return of several Australian stars to the competition, including batting maestro Steve Smith, who sizzled with consecutive tons for the Sydney Sixers finishing in second place behind the Scorchers.  Apart from the two finalists, it was a fierce competition between the rest of the sides for the passage through to the knockout stages.

Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder finished in third and fourth place respectively with 14 points to their name each. However, Brisbane Heat sneaked into knockouts after finishing in the fifth position. Heat won their next two knockout matches against the Thunder and Renegades to seal their place in the title bout in Perth, joining the defending champions into the final, who defeated Sydney Sixers to book their place in the final.

Coming to the final, it was another roller coaster ride for an expectant full house at the Perth Stadium. Brisbane Heat decided to bat first in the showcase event and posted a decent tally of 175 runs, hoping to put pressure on the defending champions. The reigning champions stuttered in their chase initially, losing their top three cheaply. That is when Josh Inglis and skipper Ashton Turner got together for a decisive 80-run stand.

However, catastrophe struck for the home crowd when both batters were sent packing in the space of three balls in the 17th over. But Nick Hobson and Cooper Connolly turned the tide for the hosts as the latter smacked 18 runs off James Bazley's 18th over. The duo held their nerve and helped their side over the line in a humdinger of a final, making it consecutive BBL titles for the Scorchers.
