BCCI announces big increase in prize money for all domestic tournaments

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to increase prize money for all its tournaments from the 2023/24 season. The BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, announced big changes to prize money across tournaments and said it is a part of BCCI's efforts to invest in domestic cricket.
Ranji Trophy winners, India's premier first-class tournament, will bag INR 5 crore while the prize money for Vijay Hazare Trophy winners will be INR 1 crore. BCCI also revamped prize money for runner-ups and losing semi-finalists of the Ranji Trophy. Furthermore, Shah announced the wholesome changes in prize money on his Twitter handle and also termed domestic cricket as the backbone of Indian cricket.
"I’m pleased to announce an increase in prize money for all BCCI Domestic Tournaments. We will continue our efforts to invest in Domestic Cricket – which is the backbone of Indian Cricket. Ranji winners to get ₹5 crores (from 2 cr), Sr Women winners ₹50 lacs (from 6 lacs)," Jay Shah stated via his tweet on April 16.
Saurashtra, the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 winners, won INR 2 crore while runner-up West Bengal won INR 1 crore. Women's domestic cricket tournaments also witnessed a sharp increase in prize money. For the Senior Women's One Day Trophy winners, the prize money has been increased from INR 6 lakh to INR 50 lakh, while the Women's T20 Trophy winners will bag INR 40 lakh.
BCCI announced the Domestic cricket schedule recently
Meanwhile, not long ago the BCCI announced the schedule for the upcoming domestic season 2023/24 on April 15. The domestic season will kick start with the Duleep Trophy on June 28 and will be followed by Prof. Deodhar Trophy. Ranji Trophy will kick off on January 5, and the final will be played on March 14, 2024.
Notably, the coveted tournaments will be played across six zones viz– Central, South, North, East, West and North-East zones, respectively. Additionally, the renowned Irani Cup will begin on October 1, 2023. Teams Rest of India and Ranji champion Saurashtra will be taking on each other.
While speaking of limited-overs domestic matches, the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will comprise 38 teams which will be divided into two groups of seven teams and three groups consisting of eight teams in totality. Both tournaments will start on October 16 and December 15, 2023, respectively.
