The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up to host its annual award ceremony known as NAMAN in Hyderabad on January 23. This grand occasion precedes the commencement of the first Test match between India and England at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad, scheduled for January 25. Notably, this will mark a significant return for the BCCI awards after a hiatus of four years, with the previous event being in 2020, disrupted by the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Amidst the excitement, the ceremony is set to honour the outstanding performances of cricketers over the past three years, acknowledging their perseverance and achievements. Adding to the allure, the England cricket team, led by Ben Stokes, is expected to grace the occasion. The team arrived in Hyderabad on Sunday, embarking on their training regimen ahead of the impending Test series.

A highlight of the ceremony is the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be conferred upon the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri. Joining the ranks of cricketing legends such as Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Syed Kirmani, and Kris Srikkanth, Shastri will receive the CK Nayudu Award for his exceptional contributions to the sport.

Further accolades include the Polly Umrigar award for the best men's cricketer of the year for 2023, expected to be bestowed upon the promising talent, Shubman Gill. However, a notable absentee might be Virat Kohli, a five-time recipient of the prestigious award, who could miss the ceremony as he has opted out of the first two Tests against England due to personal reasons. The last BCCI awards ceremony in January 2020 saw Jasprit Bumrah and Poonam Yadav clinching the Polly Umrigar awards in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
