BCCI ethics officer Vineet Saran serves conflict of interest notice to President Roger Binny

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ethics officer Vineet Saran has served a conflict of interest notice to the current board president Roger Binny. As per reports, Binny must give a response in writing by December 20 for challenging the allegations against him and prove that such claims are irrelevant.

This conflict of interest complaint has been filed by Sanjeev Gupta who alleged that Roger Binny’s daughter-in-law as well as a well-known sports presenter Mayanti Langer works for Star Sports which officially holds the media rights for India cricket’s home season.

Roger Binny warned by the BCCI ethics officer

“You are hereby informed that a complaint has been received under Rule 39(2)(b) of the Rules and Regulations of BCCI by the Ethics Officer, BCCI for breach of Rule 38 (1) (i) and Rule 38(2) of the said rules, constituting an instance of “conflict of interest” on your part.

“You are directed to file your Written Response to the accompanying complaint on or before 20/12/2022. The said response should be supported by a duly executed affidavit,” wrote Saran in the notice dated November 21 according to Times of India.

The 1983 World Cup winner was elected as the new BCCI president on October 18 during the national cricket board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held in Mumbai. He succeeded former India captain Sourav Ganguly to become the 36^th BCCI president.

With the Indian team faltering in the semis of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, Binny and his team would now need to chalk out a plan to figure out how the Men in Blue can survive the pressure during ICC knockouts and go the distance to end their title drought that has been bothering them since 2013.

There are two ICC events slated for next year. The World Test Championship final in June and the ODI World Cup in India in October-November. At the same time, it also remains to be seen whether skipper Rohit Sharma and the current head coach  Rahul Dravid’s performances will be thoroughly monitored from hereon.
