For two open vacancies in the junior men's selection committee and the senior women's selection committee, respectively, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an invitation for applications.
As a result of S. Sharath's promotion to the senior men's selection committee earlier this month, a vacancy has arisen on the men's junior selection committee. The candidate must have played at least 25 first-class matches and have retired from the sport at least five years ago in order to meet the requirements listed in the job posting on the board's website.
With 139 appearances in first-class matches and 8700 runs scored for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, Sharath presided over the junior men's selection committee that chose the Indian team led by Yash Dhull, who led the side to a victory at the U19 Men's World Cup in the West Indies in February 2022.
In addition to the standard parameters for employment tasks and obligations, a fascinating note was made regarding the need for the candidate to “inculcate proper ethics in the youth, particularly through interactions with senior and former players on issues such as drugs, betting and match-fixing, etc.”
Ranadeb Bose, Harvinder Singh Sodhi, Krishan Mohan, and Pratik Patel make up the junior men's selection committee at the moment after Sharath was promoted to the senior men's panel. A vacancy has arisen on the senior women's selection committee, which is led by Neetu David, as Mithu Mukherjee's tenure has come to an end.
Mukherjee, a former India international, had around two years left on her contract when the BCCI created the current panel in September 2020, but she was a member of an earlier national selection panel. However, her term ultimately came to an end in September of last year leaving the committee with one member less.
Arati Vaidya, Renu Margarate, and V. Kalpana are the other members of the senior women's selection committee at the moment. The contender must have played for the senior women's team and must have stopped competing five years ago, among other requirements. The candidate would be expected to choose "the best possible team in a fair and transparent manner.”
The candidate must also travel to see both home and international matches, as well as attend team meetings as and when necessary. BCCI’s notice also added that the candidate must “be responsible for vetting and selecting coaches and Support Staff (physiotherapists, trainers, therapists, analysts, and medics) for the respective teams.”
Additionally, the post would involve selecting a captain for each format, drafting and submitting evaluation reports of the respective team results to the BCCI Apex Council on a monthly basis, and speaking to the media regarding squad selection as directed by the BCCI.
The application date for both open positions is January 28 at 1800 hours. The shortlisted individuals will be contacted for personal interviews for additional evaluation after the BCCI has reviewed the applications.
The interviews will be conducted by the three-person Cricket Advisory Committee, which includes Sulakshana Naik and Jatin Paranjape and is led by Ashok Malhotra.
