The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has swung into action, tirelessly endeavouring to secure visas for Pakistani journalists eagerly awaiting their journey to India for the upcoming World Cup. This development comes hot on the heels of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressing their disappointment over the delay in visa clearances for both Pakistan fans and the media corps. The stakes are high, with approximately 60 Pakistan journalists primed to make the pilgrimage for the World Cup.

The anticipation and fervour surrounding Pakistan's World Cup opener against the Netherlands in Hyderabad reached a crescendo, albeit without the presence of any members of the Pakistani media contingent or their ardent fans. However, one notable exception was Karachi-born Mohammad Bashir, a US citizen, who fervently lent his support to Pakistan from the stands.

"This (visa) is an obligation of our host (BCCI) and they are working hard on it with our full support. Every effort is being made to get this sorted," an ICC spokesperson, reassured echoing the diligent efforts being put forth.

In a twist, the perspective of Pakistan's skipper, Babar Azam, underwent a remarkable transformation when queried about the reception in India. Azam, after experiencing incredible hospitality from the moment his team touched down in Hyderabad, now eagerly anticipates even greater support. He harbours the hope of witnessing Pakistan fans cheering for their team in every match and at every venue.

Pakistani Visa applications undergo scrupulous vetting

With a throng of fans expected to traverse the border, the PCB is hoping that the visas will materialise prior to the colossal clash between India and Pakistan scheduled for October 14th in Ahmedabad. Notably, visa applications from Pakistan passport holders undergo rigorous vetting by multiple Indian ministries, including home, external affairs, and sports, owing to Pakistan's placement on India's prior reference category (PRC) list.

"PCB is disappointed to see that Pakistani journalists and fans are facing uncertainty about obtaining an Indian visa to cover Pakistan's opening game in the ICC World Cup. We understand the significant role that journalists and passionate fans play in enhancing the spirit and atmosphere of sports events,” a PCB spokesperson remarked.
