BCCI issues new rules for IPL 2025, no family members in dressing rooms
BCCI's new rule states that players' family members and friends have to travel in a different vehicle.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a series of new regulations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, with a main focus on restricting access to the dressing room. To maintain discipline and simplify matchday procedures, the BCCI has banned family members (of players and support staff) from entering dressing rooms, even during practice days.
Furthermore, players have been asked to travel via the team bus for matches and practice sessions. These changes were formally communicated to all franchises and team managers in a recent virtual meeting on February 18.
The BCCI has always emphasized regulations to maintain the professionalism of the IPL. However, with concerns over dressing room access and logistical discipline, the board has taken additional steps to ensure a controlled environment. These new rules, which were conveyed via email to all franchises, also introduce modifications related to matchday attire, fitness tests, and practice schedules.
Notably, these measures are similar to the policies given to Team India players during international fixtures. One of the updates states that on practice days and match days, only accredited staff members are permitted in the dressing room and on the field of play.
"On practice days (during pre-tournament & tournament), only accredited staff is allowed in the dressing room and on the field of play. Player family members and may friends travel in a different vehicle and can watch team practice from the hospitality area. For extended support staff (throw down specialist/net bowlers) list need to be submitted for approval to the BCCI. Once approved, non-match day accreditations will be issued for the same," the mail read as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Players prohibited from wearing sleeveless jerseys during presentation ceremonies
Additionally, fitness tests for players can no longer be conducted on the main square on match days, a practice that physios have frequently used in the past to assess player fitness before games. To ensure team unity and logistical coordination, the BCCI has made it mandatory for all players to use the team bus when arriving for practice.
Further, IPL's signature Orange Cap and Purple Cap holders must wear them for at least two overs during games and at the post-match presentation. Players are also prohibited from wearing sleeveless jerseys during presentation ceremonies, with a financial penalty imposed on repeated violations. Teams will get two nets in the practice area and one side wicket for range hitting. Open nets will not be allowed, and teams are prohibited from extending practice time if another team finishes early. Additionally, players and support staff cannot sit in front of LED boards.
