The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a cautionary notice to all stakeholders involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL), warning them about attempts to lure participants into potentially corrupt activities. This alert extends to franchise owners, players, coaches, support staff, and even commentators.

The Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) has identified a businessman from Hyderabad with known links to bookies, and a history of involvement in corruption-based activities. According to ACSU, this individual has been trying to befriend participants of the IPL disguising as a fan. The ACSU has advised all teams to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious interactions with the individual.

His modus operandi reportedly includes offering expensive gifts, such as jewellery, and extending lavish invitations to parties in order to trap the targets. In some instances, the individual is believed to have approached family members of franchise owners, players, and staff through social media platforms, offering to take them to high-end jewellery stores and luxury hotels.

He has also been spotted at team hotels and stadiums, attempting to establish personal connections with players and staff. There are confirmed reports of him offering gifts not only to participants but also to their families.

The ACSU emphasised that advancements in technology have made their job more challenging, with corrupt individuals employing increasingly sophisticated methods to approach potential targets. The unit urged all IPL stakeholders to be on high alert and immediately disclose any contact or engagement with suspicious individuals.

The BCCI reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining the integrity of the sport and assured that every possible measure will be taken to prevent corrupt practices in the IPL.

The 2025 IPL is currently underway where the final is scheduled on May 25 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
