Former Test batter Wasim Jaffer hilariously said that Virat Kohli remembered England all-rounder Ben Stokes after taking India over the line against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter at the MCG on Sunday, October 23. Chasing 160, the Men in Blue were reeling at 31/4 before an unbeaten 53-ball 82 from the batting megastar took them over the line by four wickets in a thrilling final over.
Kohli was involved in a 113-run fifth wicket stand with middle order sensation Hardik Pandya as the duo continued its onslaught on Pakistan bowlers in the middle and death overs to reduce the deficit for India in their campaign opener.
Virat Kohli was really pumped up: Wasim Jaffer
"When he (Virat Kohli) was hitting boundaries and sixes, he was really pumped up and it was seen as he was checking the scores and obviously even Ben Stokes might have got hiccups on a number of occasions. He was not on strike for too long in the last over and therefore, he would have heaved a sigh of relief after India won the match. So obviously, you feel a bit relieved," said Jaffer while speaking on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.
"But I think while he was playing, I reckon that he was aggressive and was extremely happy that those boundaries and sixes were hit because India needed more than 45 runs in the last three overs to win. So, on any given day those 48 runs against the Pakistan bowling attack at the MCG you would always feel that they are a lot of runs since it is a big ground," he added.
"To play such a knock and to win from that position is just out of the world," he further added.
Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his outstanding innings and he also seemed very jubilant after helping India chase the target.
