Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar lavished massive praise on Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after his impressive century against Mumbai Indians. Notably, MI edged past the Royals in a thrilling affair by six wickets at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 30.

Despite ending up on the losing side, Jaiswal’s performance which garnered massive praise from fans and members of the cricketing fraternity. The Royals’ southpaw hammered 16 boundaries and eight sixes in his 124 off 62, maintaining a terrific strike rate of 200. Manjrekar heaped praise on the RR opener and called it the best knock by a youngster in the IPL.

“It has to be the best batting performance from a young Indian batter in the history of the IPL. We have seen Manish Pandey get a hundred; he was very young at that time. But to just see him bat, the size of his own score vis-a-vis his team’s score. That’s also a big parameter,” Manjrekar told Star Sports.

“One individual scoring more than half of the team’s score is a breakthrough innings. One batter for Rajasthan Royals contributed. Yashasvi Jaiswal has come of age. There are a lot of young Indian batters who are ready to play for India in T20s,” he added.

Jaiswal re-writes history with fabulous century

It is worth mentioning that Jaiswal recorded the highest individual score by an uncapped player in the top-tier league. The batter eclipsed Paul Valthaty’s long-standing record for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) of an unbeaten 120 runs against CSK in 2011.

In addition to this, the southpaw is also the fourth-youngest batter to score a century, at the age of 21 years and 123 days. Manish Pandey holds the record, having scored a century at 19 years, 253 days. Meanwhile, following the knock against Mumbai, Jaiswal also got his hands on the IPL Orange Cap. The batter has collected 428 runs in nine outings, lacing it with three fifties and one century.
