‘Better to be president than CEO’ - Shakib Al Hasan responds to BPL chairman's offer
Shakib's statement comes after the BPL chairman welcomed him to take up the role of CEO.
Bangladesh veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has yet again made headlines as he took a subtle dig at Bangladesh Premier League’s (BPL) governing council chairman Sheikh Sohel. Recently the Magura-born all-rounder mentioned that he can improve the overall standard of BPL and gave a reference of the Bollywood movie Nayak.
Responding to Shakib's comment, Sheikh Sohel the chairman of the BPL governing council welcomed the Bangladesh cricketer to join the council and make the necessary changes.
"I welcome Shakib and thank him. If he wants to come as CEO of BPL, he has shown that interest. From the governing council, we welcome him. If he wants, he can come and take responsibility as CEO," Sohel said.
However, the veteran all-rounder did not hold back from making yet another statement as he stated that he would rather be the president than take up the role of the CEO.
"It would be better to be the president than be the CEO," Shakib was quoted as saying to the reporters.
Fortune Barishal begin campaign with loss
Shakib, who plays for Fortune Barishal, started the campaign with a loss to Sylhet Strikers in their first match in Dhaka. The batter scored a 32-ball 67 in that game and was involved in an on-field controversy.
He was seen arguing with an on-field umpire during the match when the match official did not give an overhead wide off fast bowler Rejaur Rahman Raja. Annoyed with the decision, Shakib screamed at the umpire and charged at him to express his displeasure. Despite Shakib's reaction to the decision, the umpire stood firm with his call and the match resumed with the southpaw disappointed.
Despite starting the campaign with a loss, Barishal got back to winning ways as they beat Rangpur Riders by six wickets in match 7 of the BPL.
