Australia haven’t defeated India in a Test series in almost a decade. From the current batch, only Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood have won a Test series against India while players like Pat Cummins, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne among a few others are hungry to tick the box in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, slated to begin on November 22.
The Kangaroos have had massive success in recent times - winning the T20 World Cup in 2022, World Test Championship and ODI World Cup in 2023, and managed to retain the Ashes away from home, but a series win against India is still pending. The senior players in the team were part of the team when Australia lost back-to-back series to India at home, and are now desperate to end on a winning note.
Captain Cummins also wants the players to cement their legacy by winning the upcoming five-match series. He reminded that it is one thing that some of the players haven’t ticked off yet, and noted that the players are relaxed and that everyone knows each other’s game.
“It's kind of one of the last things to tick off for a lot of us. Almost every challenge that we've had thrown with us over the last few years, we've stepped up and done well. To do that for another year, another home summer, would kind of cement this. Rather than just being a two or three-season thing, it's suddenly into a half-generation thing,” Cummins was quoted as saying by Western Australian.
“It's basically been the same side for the last two or three years. The week leading to is very normal. It's all very relaxed. Everyone knows how they need to prepare. One of the strengths of our team is not only the consistency, but how well everyone gets on and how much we love playing together,” he added.
