Bhuvneshwar Kumar looks tired and fast bowlers are allowed to: Matthew Hayden
In the 18th over of the third T20I, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave away 21 runs against Australia.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s form ahead of the T20 World Cup is a huge matter of concern for the Indian team. However, the former Australia international Matthew Hayden believes that there’s no reason to worry as he’s only tired and needs some time off to do better with the bowl.
The 50-year-old cited Virat Kohli’s example of how some rest helped the Indian cricketer realise his potential once again. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who hardly got any rest from international cricket in the past year, will not feature in the series against South Africa and that can help the speedster to regain momentum before the all-important World Cup.
“I think he looks tired and fast bowlers are allowed to get tired. We have seen Virat Kohli's example, he has had a couple of breaks. That can make all the difference. If a fast bowler is tired, it means that his energy is not there in the ball. I am sure he will be fine. You have got Bumrah back now, I think that combination is going to be key,” Hayden told other fellow broadcasters during the final T20I between India and Australia.
Death Over trouble continues for team India
Despite being the leading wicket-taker of the Asia Cup, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was a flop show in the death overs. Against Australia in the third T20I, the 32-year-old gave away 21 runs in the 18th over of the match. Now, even with the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, the death over woes continues for team India. The young Arshdeep Singh has some great numbers but his place in the playing XI is currently under scrutiny.
Captain Rohit Sharma isn’t worried about this at the moment as he wants to give Bumrah and Harshal some time in the middle after their respective injuries. The captain also backed Bhuvneshwar Kumar after the 3rd T20I at Hyderabad.
“With Bhuvi, it's important that we give him that space because when you have a guy like him in the team and the quality that he brings, we know that he's had more good days and bad days,” said the captain after winning the bilateral series against Australia.
