In the absence of regular skipper Glenn Maxwell, the Melbourne Stars have appointed Adam Zampa as their new skipper for the upcoming Big Bash League. The leg-spinner joined Stars during the fifth edition of the tournament and has represented them ever since.
Meanwhile, Maxwell who broke his leg during a birthday party last month, has been ruled out from the entire season. Adam Zampa replaced the all-rounder and mentioned in an official statement that the team will be giving their everything in order to win their maiden Big Bash title. Zampa also revealed that he is gunning to play alongside Trent Boult and Luke Wood this season.
“It's an honour to lead the Melbourne Stars in Glenn's absence and I look forward to helping get the best out of this group. Our Stars journey won't be complete without a BBL title and we're throwing everything into this season to achieve that,” said the newly appointed captain of Stars.
“I’m so excited to be playing alongside Trent Boult and Luke Wood for the first time along with Joe Clarke again this year. With the help of Marcus as vice-captain, I can’t wait to lead this group and we want to see as many of our fans at the MCG as possible on Friday 16th December at the MCG,” the spinner added.
Jason Sangha to replace Usman Khawaja as Sydney Thunder skipper
The 23-year-old Jason Sangha has been appointed as the new skipper of Sydney Thunder. Meanwhile, Khawaja, who led the side in the previous season, has left the franchise ahead of the new season and will be leading Brisbane Heat in the next edition.
The youngster was also seen leading the Thunder’s side when Usman Khawaja missed three games last season. With David Warner’s availability as a captain still under consideration, Sangha has been given the full-time role.
“This means a lot. I have been fortunate to have played under some tremendous leaders at Sydney Thunder, starting with Shane Watson.
T"here have also been other quality skippers including Callum Ferguson, Usman Khawaja, and Chris Green. Each of them had positive impacts on the team, and something they all did well was they led by their actions - and that's something I want to do,” said Sangha after being appointed as the new skipper.
