Bangladesh’s bowling was put to the test in the opening T20I of the series against Ireland. Notably, due to rain, the match was shortened, and the visiting side was asked to score 104 runs in eight overs after Bangladesh posted 207 runs in 19.2 overs. Now, chasing a mammoth total, the Paul Stirling-led side started well, scoring 32 runs in less than three overs. However, when Shakib Al Hasan handed the ball to Taskin Ahmed in the fourth over of the second innings, the complexion of the match completely changed.
The 27-year-old picked up four wickets in total, including three in five deliveries. He wreaked havoc in the middle and destroyed the Irish batting unit as they eventually lost the match by 22 runs (DLS method).
Meanwhile, after a super show from him, the ace pacer opened up and stated that the conditions in Chattogram were difficult for bowlers, but everyone in the team stuck together and executed their plan and, most importantly, bowled according to the situation. He also mentioned that the bowlers are trying to get adjusted to the conditions fast these days, and that’s one of the recipes to get success.
“They needed 104 runs from eight overs in favourable conditions, and the ball was coming onto the bat. It was slightly wet out there too. But we didn't relax till the last over. We stuck to the process. We focused on the execution, whatever the situation demanded. It is our responsibility to adjust to the wicket. We are assessing the conditions and adjusting ourselves to the behaviour of the wicket. It is part of the learning process. If we can execute properly, we can bowl better,” Taskin said at the post-match press conference as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The cricketer also added that the bowlers are trying to improve and get to the next level, and he believes that the Bangla Tigers are on the right track. The speedster also wants his team to have a world-class bowling unit and have four to five top bowlers as it will then be difficult for the opposition to handle them.
“If we can all become world-class bowlers, it will be tough for the opponents to handle us. Big teams have four or five world-class fast bowlers. We want the same thing. We are treating it like a family, the bowling unit, and helping each other for the last two and a half years. We are improving, but we are still to reach the next level but I believe we are in the right track. We have a great mindset so we can reach the goal of becoming a world-class attack,” he added.
