While announcing India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, chief selector Ajit Agarkar took a dig at Pakistan pacers stating that Virat Kohli will be taking care of them in the tournament. The comment came after the 34-year-old’s sensational batting against the Men in Green in the T20 World Cup last year. However, it didn’t sit well with the Pakistan all-rounder, Shadab Khan.
After winning the ODI series against Afghanistan, the 24-year-old reminded that there’s a lot of difference between saying something and doing it on the ground. He added that anyone can say anything but the cricketer needs to prove himself on the field to get the job done. Hence, he was not bothered by the outside noise and would like to see the reality on September 2, when Pakistan take on India in Sri Lanka.
“See, it all depends on what happens that day. Me or someone else, or someone from their side, can say whatever they want. It doesn't make any difference. When the match takes place, then only we'll get to know what is the reality,” Shadab said responding to the reporter’s question as quoted by NDTV.
Pakistan to begin their Asia Cup campaign on August 30
Despite playing relatively well in the last edition of the Asia Cup, Pakistan failed to clinch the trophy as they lost to Sri Lanka on the night of the finals. They would be eyeing to change that this time around and with that hope, the Men in Green will play their first league game against Nepal, on August 30, in Multan.
Following this, the Babar Azam-led side will be travelling to Sri Lanka to play against their arch-rivals, India, on September 2. After that, if they manage to qualify for the Super Four, Pakistan will be travelling back to Lahore to take on the second qualifier of Group B. Meanwhile, after the Asia Cup, the Men in Green will travel to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5.
