In the latest development, the Bombay High Court has ordered a family court in Mumbai's Bandra to take final hearing on the divorce petition filed by cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal with wife Dhanashree Verma on February 05, 2025. The couple, that took the marriage oath in 2020, has been living apart since June 2022, and now the Bandra court will take a final call in the plea by March 20.

The couple had decided to a consent agreement for mutual divorce, according to which, the husband had nodded to pay a permanent alimony of INR 4.75 crore to Dhanashree. The same agreement was filed alongside a request to waive off the statutory cooling-off period of six months before a separation is finally ordered. However, an incomplete payment of alimony from Chahal had forced the family court to cancel the plea, which the High Court bench under Justice Madhav Jamdar has now reversed on Wednesday, and fast pace the divorce ruling.

The decision to speed up the hearing has occurred amid Chahal's participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2025. As a matter of fact, Chahal will represent Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL and is set to play the role of a premier spinner for the franchise. He was bought by the franchise for INR 18 crore and has already joined their training camp in a bid to prepare himself for the premier T20 competition. Since the leg-spinner is with the team, it remains to be seen if he will appear for the court hearing on Thursday.

Chahal to play county post IPL

The Haryana cricketer has been out of the Indian national team for quite some time now. Although he was a part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2024, he didn't feature in a single game and warmed the bench for the entire tournament, where Rohit Sharma's men emerged victorious. He has been consistently plying his trade in domestic cricket ever since, and his immediate assignment is the IPL, a league in which he is the highest wicket-taker with 205 scalps, representing Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians over the years.

After the season ends, Chahal will travel to the United Kingdom for a county stint with Northamptonshire. The cricketer has already represented the side in the past during last year's One-Day Cup and had an impressive outing that included a five-wicket haul as well. The leggie told that he will hope to replicate a similar run for Northampton in the season.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season, so I’m very happy to be coming back. There are some great people in that dressing room, and I can’t wait to be part of that again. We played some great cricket towards the back end of the season, so hopefully, we can replicate that and pick up some victories,” Chahal had told ESPNcricinfo following the announcement.
