With the preparations for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in full flow, team India will be without both Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant which forces them to reconsider their middle order ahead of the first Test. Many have been discussing the availability of Suryakumar Yadav and whether or not he will be picked in the squad for his Test debut.

Former South African all-rounder JP Duminy has also opined about whether Suryakumar Yadav should make it to the playing XI or not. He has stated that Suryakumar is one of the most exciting batters in India’s arsenal, and if they are looking to adopt an aggressive mindset in the series, then he should play.

The 32-year-old's inclusion in the Test squad is a strongly debated topic. With the return of KL Rahul to the squad and the absence of Rishabh Pant, fitting Suryakumar in the team will be quite a dilemma for the team. It is expected for Shubman Gill to open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma, as Rahul will drop down in the order. Only time will tell whether or not Surya will be used in the line-up.

In a press-conference arranged by SA20, JP Duminy talked about Suryakumar Yadav, saying, "Suryakumar Yadav is probably one of the most exciting players in India now. I think from where Test cricket is going, I think as a country you need to decide what is the brand of cricket you want to play. If it is the attacking mindset, then I think he becomes an option," as reported by Sportskeeda.

He has the technique and temperament to do it: Duminy on Shubman Gill

JP Duminy also talked about the emergence of Shubman Gill as the opener in all three formats. The 23-year-old has been in sensational form recently and could be crucial for India in the first Test against Australia in Nagpur.

Talking about Gill, Duminy said, "Shubman Gill, what a white-ball series he has had. He has certainly staked a claim for all three formats and has the technique and temperament to do them. Whether he gets an opportunity right now, I don’t know whether there’s a gap for him just yet. but certainly in the near future."
