Ahead of qualifier 2 between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2023, flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav opened up and gave an insight into his gameplay. Notably, the cricketer has been sensational for the five-time champions in the ongoing season, scoring 544 runs in 15 matches and with that, he is currently seventh in the IPL Orange Cap race. The Mumbai-born batter started the season on a slower note but as the tournament progressed, he got better and played some brilliant cricket.

Meanwhile, talking about his game plan in the shortest format, Suryakumar mentioned that he likes to deal with boundaries or at least in singles and doubles as it eventually releases a lot of pressure. The 32-year-old stated he likes to back himself no matter what the situation is and often plays according to the field as he is not a power hitter who can hit massive sixes.

“I am always excited for batting. I am always ready, waiting in the dugout. People ask me why am I sprinting to the crease sometimes. It is my way of warming up. I just aim to express myself and enjoy my game. If I get to hit a boundary on the first or second ball, I do not leave that opportunity. People say that T20 is about sixes. But during the course of a match, there are a lot of pressure situations. I think of ways to reduce the pressure on me and my partner. Boundaries are a way for me to do so. It is not always sixes, I hit boundaries more. Playing smart game is important,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying by NDTV.

I know where my runs are, they are on the ground: Yadav

Further, Suryakumar Yadav emphasized that playing along the ground is one of his greatest strengths. Therefore, he backs himself with his gameplan no matter the situation in the match. Moreover, the dashing batter also talked about the importance of singles and doubles apart from hitting boundaries as it helps in putting pressure on the opposition.

"I always intend to hit fours and sixes. Or else, singles or doubles. It has always been my game. I play according to the field. I am not a power hitter. I cannot hit sixes of 100-120 m. I know where my runs are, they are on the ground. I am clear about this and I back myself no matter what the situation is," the batter added.

Notably, in order to qualify for their seventh final in IPL history, the Rohit Sharma-led side will once again depend on Suryakumar, who is in remarkable form at the moment. The pitch in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will eventually help him play an aggressive brand of cricket as it is tailor-made for the batters to succeed.
