‘Viv was special, Ben isn’t’ - Sir Geoffrey Boycott lambasts Ben Duckett’s subpar Test summer
"Ben Duckett is a perfect example of the McCullum style. When he gets runs it is rat-a-tat-tat, shot a ball. There are great shots interspersed with slogs, pulls and sweeps," Boycott said.

Former England cricketer Sir Geoffrey Boycott recently came forward and fired shots at England batter Ben Duckett for his poor performances throughout the Test summer. Having played 26 Tests so far in his career, Duckett has scored 1828 runs to his name and has maintained an average of 39.73, with three centuries to his name as well.
However, the stats do not impress Sir Geoffrey Boycott; the 83-year-old compared Duckett’s playstyle to that of former New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum and even said that he tries to play like a left-handed Vivian Richards.
"Ben Duckett is a perfect example of the McCullum style. When he gets runs it is rat-a-tat-tat, shot a ball. There are great shots interspersed with slogs, pulls and sweeps. Other times he gets himself out with daft shots that you can’t believe he has tried. He attempts to play like a left-handed Viv Richards dismissing bowlers to all parts of the ground. Viv was special, Ben isn’t,” Boycott was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
It is worth noting that Ben Duckett failed to get any centuries in the series against Sri Lanka; he scored 86 runs in 79 deliveries against Sri Lanka in the first innings of the third Test but did complete the ton.

Furthermore, Sir Geoffrey Boycott also talked about Harry Brook. The former cricketer opined that Harry Brook should look for ways to improvise his game after he put in a subpar showing in the Test summer. Notably, Brook had recently failed to convert his knocks into big scores, he did impress during the start of the summer but has fallen short as of late.

"Harry Brook has had a meteoric rise. In full flow, there is a touch of Kevin Pietersen as he improvises with effortless timing and power. Just like Kevin, he has charisma. But while Harry has been plundering runs teams will have been searching for ways to get him out,” Boycott concluded.
