BPL 2024 to clash with five T20 leagues

The fixtures for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 have been released and the tournament is clashing with five other T20 tournaments in the same window.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BC) announced that BPL 2024 will be held between January 19 and March 1. Notably, the ILT20 in the UAE will run from January 19 to February 17. The SA20 league in South Africa will be held from January 10 to February 10. The BBL (Big Bash League), which started on December 7, will run until January 24 in Australia while the Super Smash in New Zealand will be played from December 19 to January 28.

The biggest hindrance for BPL could be the PSL (Pakistan Super League) 2024, as the Bangladesh league relies on many players from Pakistan in their tournament, and with the PSL 2024 scheduled for mid-February to mid-March, it could pose plenty of player availability problems.

In 2023, the BPL saw as many as 25 players from Pakistan competing in the league, with the names like Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed showcasing their prowess. However, with the dates clashing, the same might not be a possibility this time.

Comilla Victorians look to reclaim their crown

As the latest edition of the BPL approaches, it could be interesting to see how the various sides fare. The previous season saw Sylhet Strikers, Comilla Victorians, Rangpur Riders, and Fortune Barishal make it to the knockout stages of the tournament after a hard-fought group stage.

Strikers finished in first place, closely followed by the Victorians. The knockout stages saw Victorians make their way into the summit clash after defeating Strikers in Qualifier 1. On the other hand, Rangpur Riders defeated Barishal in the Eliminator and went on to face Strikers in Qualifier 2.

However, Strikers put in a brilliant performance and faced off against Comilla Victorians in the summit clash, where they eventually lost as Imrul Kayes-led Victorians lifted the trophy.
