Brydon Carse is seto to miss the remainder of the Champions Trophy 2025, starting with their important must-win game against Afghanistan to be played on Wednesday, February 26. On Monday, the Durham pacer was missing from the training session due to a recurring left toe injury, a concern that has troubled him all his cricketing journey.
Even after getting match-fit to play against Australia on Saturday, Carse's soreness was seemingly hindering him from moving freely on the field. As Australia chased down 352 with 15 balls remaining, Carse finished as the most expensive bowler of the day with an economy rate of 9.85. The concern with Carse's toe started during the recent white-ball series in India, which led him to miss the final two ODI games of the three-match series.

The condition has deteriorated since then and the allrounder has been advised to undergo treatment to avoid aggravating it further. As a result, Carse will be out of England's Group B match against Afghanistan in Lahore and is also doubtful to play in Saturday's game against South Africa in Karachi. The injury can also be a hindrance to his IPL contract with the Sun Risers Hyderabad franchise.
“We’ll have to wait and see. There’s still some time before the next game to fully assess what’s going on with Carsey. We’ll see how things develop over the next few days," said Joe Root when asked about Carse's injury as per ESPNcricinfo.
Rehan Ahmed named replacement
Meanwhile, the England Cricket Board (ECB) has announced spinner Rehan Ahmed as Carse's replacement. Ahmed has played six ODIs, picking 10 wickets at an economy of under five.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad.
