The T20 World Cup 2024 has been marked by numerous statements that have left the cricketing fraternity in awe, largely due to their contentious nature. Whether concerning pitches or the scheduling of matches in the ninth edition of the marquee event, these remarks have garnered significant attention and traction worldwide.
However, a claim articulated by former Indian cricketing great, Kapil Dev, stood out as one of the most genuine and sincere opinions from the legendary figure himself, considering his remarkable prowess and skill in making the ball talk during his playing days. Ahead of India's pivotal semi-final encounter against England at the 2024 edition of the 20-over World Cup, the legendary fast-bowling great expressed that Jasprit Bumrah surpasses him by a thousand-fold. Reflecting on the comparison between players from his era and the current generation, he noted that the younger cricketers are superior overall, despite his contemporaries possessing greater experience.
"Bumrah is 1000 times better than me. These young boys are far better than us. We had more experience. They are better," Dev was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
