Fiery India pacer Jasprit Bumrah could find a spot in Team India's squad for the upcoming ICC (International Cricket Council) mega event, Champions Trophy (CT 2025). However, it was reported that the decision to include Bumrah will depend on his fitness status. Notably, the CT 2025 edition will kick off on February 19, 2025.
For the unversed, during the Sydney Test, on the final day, the 31-year-old had left for scans and did not bowl on the most important day against Australia. The reason cited for his absence was attributed to a stress-related condition. While the initial reports regarding Bumrah's back ruled out the possibility of a stress fracture, the Indian pacer's condition indicated his workload across the five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Notably, the Ahmedabad-born ended up bowling a whopping 151.2 overs across the nine innings. During these matches, he claimed 32 wickets with a staggering average of 13.06, respectively. Now as per the medical assessments, the apex cricket governing body, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), decided to give rest to the premier pacer for at least five weeks. After that, the Indian speedster will undergo another scan to reveal the latest status of his back injury.
February 11 is last date for final squad submission
As per ESPN Cricinfo, if the reports come out on the positive side and Jasprit Bumrah gets the fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), then most likely, the 31-year-old will be fielded in the final ODI of the home series against England. Notably, the final ODI will be played on February 12. Interestingly, the deadline allotted by the ICC for the marquee event to submit final squads is February 11.
