The Indian team is all set to take on Australia in the first Test of the much anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as both sides will lock horns in Perth for the first Test from November 22 to commence the series. It is worth noting that the Indian team will be led by ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the first Test of the series in Rohit Sharma's absence as the regular skipper is missing due to the birth of his second child.

It was announced that Bumrah would be leading India in the first Test, having been named the vice-captain in the squad. The ace pacer took centre stage and talked about the prospect of leading India on the eve of the game. Bumrah revealed how big an honour it is to lead India in such a prestigious and historic series, adding that he has his own way of leading just like Rohit and Kohli have in the past.

“It is an honour. I have my own style. Virat was different, Rohit was different. and I have my own way. It is a privilege. I don't take it as a position. I love taking responsibility. I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here,” Bumrah said in the pre-game press conference.

We have finalised our combination: Bumrah

Bumrah also talked about the team combination that could be in play for the Perth Test. He gave an update about veteran pacer Mohammed Shami who has been out injured since the ODI World Cup 2023 final but has returned to professional cricket with Bengal's clash against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. Bumrah revealed that Shami could be in action in the series if everything goes to plan.

“We have finalised our combination. You'll come to know it tomorrow. Shami has been an integral part and the management is keeping a close eye. If everything goes well, you might see him here [in Australia] as well,” Bumrah said.
