Legendary pacer James Anderson called time on international cricket after the first Test against West Indies in Lord’s. Fans all across the globe paid tribute to the cricketer while former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn was present to watch him bowl for one final time in international cricket.

Anderson’s retirement wasn’t straightforward, as the team management asked the 41-year-old to hang up his boots, given that he didn’t fit in with England’s plans for Ashes 2025. Until then, the seamer didn’t plan his retirement and wanted to play the entire summer and perhaps even beyond that. He was emotional on his final day in international cricket as the cricketer raised a toast on the balcony of Lord’s before bidding farewell to Test cricket.

Soon after his retirement, Borough leader Afrasiab Anwar confirmed that the Burnley street will be named after the pacer as a mark of tribute. He stated that the plan was always in place but since he was active in international cricket, they decided to wait..

“I think the reason for that delay was that he was still playing. Shortly we will be able to make an announcement but it is recognised what he has achieved and that also he has made Burnley proud,” Anwar was quoted as saying by BBC.

Meanwhile, the council recreation boss Jack Launer added that he hopes Burnley Football Club names a stand after the cricketer or any other cricket stadium to honour him with the same. He also hoped Anderson to return to Burnley and coach budding cricketers.

“What a career. I hope he comes back (to Burnley) and teaches our kids to bowl. I hope we name a stand at (Burnley Football Club's) Turf Moor potentially after him – or name a cricket field stand,” Launer said.

Tory group deputy leader Jamie McGowan stated Anderson should be incredibly proud of everything he has achieved in his career.

“I just think we should be incredibly proud of what Jimmy Anderson has done in terms of his sporting achievements and his career. I would like to see the ball rolling on actually coming up with some sort of recognition for him, whether it’s renaming Belvedere Road to the Jimmy Anderson Way or something like that,” McGowan said.
