The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), on October 23, has written to BCCI secretary Jay Shah to defer their upcoming Ranji Trophy league game against Kerala due to cyclone Dana's threat. Their last game against Bihar was also called off due to rain and the officials don’t want the same to repeat as Bengal are losing some crucial points.

The cyclone is expected to create a havoc in the city and already multiple trains and flights have been cancelled in Kolkata. On Wednesday, the southern region of Bengal faced heavy rains and and as per IMD official, the cyclone will intensify by Friday morning. Anticipating that it might spoil their third game in the Ranji Trophy, the CAB has requested for a shift in dates.

“The Cricket Association of Bengal has written to Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI to defer the home matches of Senior Bengal and Bengal Under-23 scheduled on October 26th and October 27th respectively by a couple of days as the city is expected to be impacted by Cyclone Dana,” CAB said in a press release.

In addition to the Ranji clash, the CAB has also requested the BCCI to reconsider the dates of the state's Under-23 team's match against Railways, which is set to take place in Kalyani on October 27.

“Cyclone Dana is likely to cross the northern Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island between Thursday night and Friday morning,” an IMD official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Bengal are currently third on the points table with four points to their name. In the opening game against Uttar Pradesh, the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side played remarkably well but could manage only three points. They earned one from the washed-out match against Bihar. Kerala, on the other hand, are second on the points table with seven points to their name.
