CAB faces embarrassment after misspelling Mohammed Shami’s name at felicitation ceremony

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) faced an embarrassing moment on September 14 when the name of ace India pacer Mohammed Shami was misspelt on the big screen during an award ceremony organised by the board.

Instead of Shami, the name displayed read ‘Shamit’. The picture of the same is being widely circulated over social media as Shami was being felicitated with his misspelt name right behind on the big screen. The 34-year-old was felicitated by the CAB for his excellent performances for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, where his excellent spells led India to the summit clash of the tournament, which the side eventually lost to Australia.

Interestingly, Shami has not played for India ever since due to an ankle injury. However, he is getting closer to a comeback, and he recentlyrevealed how he is trying to be in the best shape before making a comeback. 

“I am working hard to make a comeback soon because I know I have been out of action for quite some time. However, I want to ensure there is no discomfort when I return. I’ve got to work on my fitness so that there is no discomfort,” Shami was quoted as saying by News18.

“The stronger I return, the better it is for me. I don’t want to rush and risk getting injured again, be it against Bangladesh, New Zealand, or the Australia series. I’ve already started bowling, but I won’t take any chances until I am 100% fit,” he added.

Meanwhile, India are set to take on Bangladesh in a multi-format series as both the sides will lock horns in two Test matches and three T20Is. As the BCCI recently announced the squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, Shami was not included since he is yet to recover completely. He is expected to make a comeback in the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home next month.
