‘Lovely for him to have that support’ - Candice Warner reacts to Mitchell Johnson’s remarks on David Warner

Former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson recently captured every headline as he launched a scathing attack on veteran batter David Warner. Johnson came forward to question why Warner was getting a "hero’s send-off" from Test cricket after he was involved in the ball tampering scandal in 2018.

Johnson’s statements saw many people give their opinion on the same, and the veteran batter’s wife Candice also came forward and stated that it was nice to see the amount of support has got from across the cricket fraternity.

"We're doing well. David's home. He's been away for three months, so to have him home now and be together as a family in the lead-up to Christmas is always special. It's really lovely for David to have that support, but he's a good human being, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters,” Candice Warner was quoted as saying by WWOS.

Anyone can get a headline: James Erskine

Speaking of Johnson’s statements, David Warner’s manager, James Erskine, also came forward to opine that anyone can get a headline. He also talked of Warner’s selection in Australia’s Test squad, which he said is completely logical despite his poor form in the format.

"Let me tell you, anyone can get a headline. The fact is that [Warner's selection] is just logical. The three [replacement] candidates will be [Matthew] Renshaw, [Cameron] Bancroft, who has played pretty well in the Sheffield Shield, and [Marcus] Harris. Now they've all had spells opening the batting for Australia,” Erskine was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Warner talked of his intentions of retiring from the longest format at the end of the Pakistan Test series. Warner recently stated he would be keen on retiring at his home ground, the Sydney Cricket Ground. It is worth noting that Australia and Pakistan will face off in a three-match Test series, with the first Test scheduled at the Optus Stadium in Perth from December 14.
