Champions Royal Challengers Bangalore Women set to grace Unbox event at Chinnaswamy
After a sloppy performance in the first edition of the WPL, the franchise finally tasted success with an emphatic 8-wicket win over Delhi Capitals Women at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
In a historic victory, Royal Challengers Bangalore secured their first-ever title at the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 finals on Sunday. After a sloppy performance in the first edition, the franchise finally tasted success with an emphatic 8-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The journey to the title was marked by exemplary performances, notably by the spin quartet led by Shreyanka Patil, who dismantled the Delhi Capitals' batting line-up, restricting them to a modest 113 runs in 18.4 overs.
The batting prowess of Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh then ensured a smooth chase as RCB clinched victory with eight wickets in hand and three balls to spare. The jubilant scenes following the win reflected the sheer joy and relief felt by the entire fan base after years of near misses.
Now, first-time champions are gearing up for a grand celebration, with a parade likely to be held in Bengaluru, their home city. Additionally, fans are eagerly awaiting their participation in the upcoming RCB Unbox 2024 event scheduled for Tuesday, March 19.
Confirming their attendance, skipper Smriti Mandhana expressed her team's excitement to be part of the prestigious event. Last year, the women's team attended the Unbox event, where franchise veterans Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers were also honoured. This year, as reigning champions, Mandhana & Co will surely receive a grand welcome from fans, whose hearts have been finally gifted a silverware to cherish.
The RCB Unbox 2024 event promises to be a spectacular affair, featuring a potential change in the name — from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with performances by renowned artists and appearances by Kannada cine stars like Rishab Shetty. Additionally, global music icon Alan Walker will also set the stage ablaze.
As the cricketing world celebrates the rise of the Bengaluru-based franchise, their triumph stands as a testament to perseverance and determination, citing inspiration for fans and players alike.
