Champions Trophy 2025: Bangladesh name 15-man squad as Shakib Al Hasan fails to make the cut
Experienced veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah have retained their places.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday, January 12, announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025. The 15-member squad named by Bangladesh will see Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain of the side. Experienced veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah have retained their places, while star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has shockingly failed to make the cut.
It is important to note that Shakib had failed to pass the test for a suspected bowling action in Chennai, and as a result, has been banned from bowling in any domestic or international cricket. The all-rounder was allowed to feature as a batter, however, the board decided to not go ahead with him at the multi-nation event. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, too, was excluded from the squad.
The Bangla Tigers have picked a strong batting unit, including captain Shanto, all-rounder Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Rahim, and Mahmudullah, whereas, the pace arsenal will be led by Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Nahid Rana. On the other hand, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain are the premier spin-bowling options in the squad for the marquee tournament.
Youngsters like Parvez Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib have managed to earn places in the squad. Jaker Ali, the 26-year-old wicketkeeper, will act as Mushfiqur's backup throughout the tournament.
