Pakistan suffered a massive loss against New Zealand in the opening game of the Champions Trophy on Wednesday at the National Stadium in Karachi. It was a disappointing performance from the Mohammad Rizwan-led side as they lost by 60 runs and failed to chase down the target of 320 set by the Kiwis.
Pakistan already have injury woes that have led to some players being ruled out of the series. Unfortunately, the series of injuries have not ended leading to another news of Fakhar Zaman. The Southpaw while fielding in the Champions Trophy 2025 opener against New Zealand had injured his lower back. Even though the fans will not see Fakhar on the field he has made his presence felt with his heartfelt post on social media showing his support to the team.
“Representing Pakistan on the biggest stage is an honor and dream of every cricketer in this country. I have been privileged enough to represent Pakistan multiple times with pride. Unfortunately, I’m now out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but surely Allah is the best planner. Grateful for the opportunity. I will be backing our boys in green from home. This is only just the beginning, the comeback will be stronger than the setback Pakistan Zindabad,” Fakhar wrote on X(Formerly known as Twitter).

Imam-ul-Haq named as replacement
Following Fakhar Zaman's injury, the team and management have finally decided to bring in his former opening partner Imam-ul-Haq as a replacement. ICC's Event Technical Committee has also approved of this replacement in the team and will be making a return to ODI cricket after two years.
Speaking of Imam’s performances in the format he has played 72 ODI matches and scored 3138 runs at an average of 48.27. He has scored 20 half-centuries and nine hundreds in the format. This will be a great opportunity for the 29-year-old to make a comeback.
