Champions Trophy 2025 fixtures likely to be announced next week
The ninth edition of the Champions Trophy is slated to be be held next year from February 19 to March 9.
Lahore is set to host a delegation sent from the side of the International Cricket Council to evaluate the arrangements made for the Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to commence on February 19, 2025, in Pakistan. For the unversed, this will be the first ICC tournament Pakistan will be hosting after the World Cup in 1996 which they co-hosted along with India and Sri Lanka.
The delegation's visit will take place from November 10 to 12. An event is expected to take place on November 11, with the gathering likely to feature esteemed figures including cricketers. Sources have also confirmed that the itinerary of the tournament has been shared with the respective boards of the member countries, as per The Express Tribune.
The main intention of the visit is to ascertain the logistical preparations as well as the progress on the renovation of the following venues - the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the National Stadium in Karachi, and the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi - the three venues selected for hosting the marquee event. Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board approved the upgradation of the aforementioned venues.
According to the proposed schedule, hosts Pakistan have been placed in Group A with the likes of arch-rivals India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Group B consists of Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan. It is also claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is awaiting confirmation from the Indian government before confirming their participation in matches to be hosted in Pakistan. A reserve day is also scheduled for March 10 just in case.
