Rain had the final say as Match 9 of the Champions Trophy 2025 between Pakistan and Bangladesh  ended in a washout without a ball being bowled at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, February 27. This marked the end of both the sides’ campaigns. Both the teams ended up with a point apiece after losing their first two games of the tournament.

It was a rather disappointing run for hosts, Pakistan, who finished on fourth place with a net run rate of -1.087. After going down in the tournament opener to New Zealand by a 60-run margin after an underwhelming effort with the bat, they were comprehensively defeated by arch-rivals India by six wickets, leaving their hopes to stay alive in the tournament on the New Zealand-Bangladesh clash. A New Zealand victory meant Pakistan had crashed out of the tournament even before their own clash against Bangladesh.

As for Bangladesh, they lost their games as well. However, it was a relatively better performance the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side put in as compared to Pakistan. They went down with a fight against India in their opening game.  Even against the Kiwis, Bangladesh were in the contest for certain phases. The Tigers ended up losing the two games by six and five wickets, respectively.

Interestingly, this was the second game of the tournament to get wiped out with weather playing spoilsport. The clash between Australia and South Africa on February 25 at the same venue ended in similar fashion too. As far as how teams in Group A are stacked up, India and New Zealand will be going through to the knockouts.

The aforementioned teams’ place in the semi-finals had already been confirmed after the Black Caps’ victory over Bangladesh. India and New Zealand will face up against each other on Sunday, March 2, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
