Chennai did what they usually do, they won the match in typical Chennai style: Aakash Chopra
Chennai Super Kings registered their seventh win of the tournament despite none of their batters scoring above 25 runs.
After Chennai Super Kings' game against Delhi Capitals, where the four-time IPL champions defeated the bottom-placed DC by 27 runs, Aakash Chopra pointed out a very interesting scenario that none of the CSK batters crossed the 25-run mark.
MS Dhoni called it right at the toss and elected to bat first, and posted a tricky total of 167 runs. In reply, to which the visitors were restricted to a mere total of 140/8 by the determined CSK bowling unit, eventually registering their seventh victory of the tournament and almost confirming their qualification into the playoffs.
While reviewing the game on his YouTube channel, the former Indian opener highlighted that there were small but useful contributions which were made by the Chennai batters that took the team to a formidable total.
The former Indian cricketer also said that once they put decent runs on the board, CSK’s bowling unit showed some excellent discipline with their line and length, which eventually resulted in DC scoring just 140 runs and falling short by 27. He also notably pointed out the performance of Deepak Chahar, who was brilliant with the new ball.
"When the opposition team chased, first Deepak Chahar did the job at the start, and then there was a run-out. After that, Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw played at a run-a-ball, and when you get out, you leave your team with an asking rate of 15. So you didn't help your team but disadvantaged them."
“This is a difficult one”- Chopra picks Deepak Chahar as his MVP from the game
The cricketer-turned-commentator also picked Mitchell Marsh as well as Deepak Chahar as the deserving contenders and eventually picked up Deepak Chahar as his MVP. The star Indian bowler registered a figure of 2/28 as he bowled superbly in the powerplay, swinging the bowl in both directions.
"It actually was. You dismissed David Warner and Phil Salt. So Deepak Chahar is my most valuable player. He has come back after injury and the way he has bowled, he two wickets in the last match and two wickets in this match. If you pick up two wickets like that in the powerplay, you are doing your team a huge favor." He concluded.
