India on Sunday (October 23) pulled off a stunner from the brink of a loss against arch-rivals Pakistan as Virat Kohli’s incredible innings single-handedly helped the side earn two points in the first fixture of their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 campaign.
Virat's knock was hailed as one of the best by many around the world including the members of the cricketing fraternity. It turned out to be one of those rare feats at the grand stage that seemed nearly impossible but was eventually achieved, thanks to the magnificent knock by Kohli.
Many had questioned the batter’s form as he seemed out of touch and lacked consistency in his game. Moreover, the player wasn’t able to notch up big scores for the last two years and then decided to take a short sabbatical from the sport ahead of the Asia Cup 2022.
Former India Head Coach and 1983 World Cup winner Ravi Shastri hailed the masterclass performance showcased by India batter Virat Kohli in the electrifying contest against Pakistan.
"For him, this knock would have helped in the rediscovery of himself, his love for the game, what he can do, and the road ahead. Clarity would be crystal clear; it’s usually a byproduct of confidence. The rediscovery of things he would have fathomed during the break. For the cricketing world, he was a superstar even before the knock; now let them decide what he is to them. I am not going to put in words for them," said Shastri to Indian Express.
Shastri speaks on Kohli’s knock
The former India cricketer believes the innings played by Kohli was enough for him to shut critics down who seemed to doubt his game.
"What’s next for Virat Kohli? I have no expectations, just let him enjoy his life. The media and critics have put enough pressure on this uncut diamond and he showed who he is. Chup kar diya na sabko?! (He has silenced everyone, right?!)."
Kohli will look to maintain this performance and consistency in the forthcoming fixtures of the World Cup.
