CPL 2024: Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope among nine retained players for Guyana Amazon Warriors

The franchise released skipper Imran Tahir ahead of CPL 2024.

Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors retained nine players for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League 2024. Skipper Imran Tahir has been released ahead of the new season while homegrown talents, such as Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie and Keemo Paul have extended their contract with the franchise.

Shai Hope, who was named Player of the Tournament in 2023 has also been retained by the Amazon Warriors. The franchise has also retained the services of Kevin Sinclair, Shamar Joseph, Kevlon Anderson and Junior Sinclair. Out of these four, Shamar had a terrific season. He was sensational in the away series against Australia, which helped the pacer earn a franchise contract in ILT20 and in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Lucknow Super Giants.

However, Joseph missed ILT20 due to an injury, but came back for LSG in the IPL. Even though he couldn’t impress, but he's touted as a promising youngster. Guyana confirmed the development via press release and stated that the remaining three players will be filled at the CPL draft, which will take place in July.

“The Guyana Amazon Warriors have confirmed the players they have retained ahead of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) draft. They have nine players confirmed for the 2024 season and they can sign up to five overseas players. The remaining three squad members will be filled at the CPL draft which will take place in July,” the press release read. 

“The Amazon Warriors won their maiden CPL title in 2023 and they have retained the core of the team that helped them secure the trophy last year. Guyanese players Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie and Keemo Paul will all be part of their home franchise this season. The 2023 Player of the Tournament Shai Hope will also be back for this year’s event along with exciting quick bowler Shamar Joseph,” the release read further.
