Cricket Australia outrightly refused that wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey walked out of a barber shop in Leeds without paying. This comes after multiple reports that circulated, stating that the Aussie keeper-batter went for a haircut at the Doc Barnet’s Barber Shop in Leeds, along with teammates David Warner and Usman Khawaja but refused to pay and walked out of the shop.
However, Cricket Australia denied the claims and instead stated that the cricketer had not received a haircut or visited a barber since playing the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final against team India in London. They further stated that another Australian (unnamed) visited the same barber and made the payment through international transfer, so as to prove the transaction.
“(Alex) Carey hasn’t received a haircut or visited a barber since last month’s World Test Championship final in London. A different Australian squad member had visited the barber, later paying for the haircut by international transfer — they have a receipt proving the transaction,” stated a report by News Corp.
Get you facts right: Steve Smith on English media
In addition to this, flamboyant Aussie batter Steve Smith took to his newly-formed ‘Threads’ social media account to rubbish the report by ‘The Sun’ regarding the same incident. Earlier, the English media dubbed Alex Carey as the ‘Ashes Villain’ after the wicketkeeper dismissed Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes Test, which turned out to be a controversial dismissal. With the recent developments regarding Carey, Smith did not mince his words and told the English media to get their facts right.
“I can confirm that @alexcarey_5 has not had a haircut since we were in London. Get your facts right @thesun,” Smith posted on his ‘Threads’ account.
England and Australia are currently playing the third Test of the ongoing Ashes series. While the Aussies are leading 2-0, the Three Lions will be raring to get back on level terms with comprehensive wins in the five-match series.
