Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said that they were asked by Cricket Australia (CA) to reschedule the two-match Test series which is currently fixed to commence in the 2027 season.

Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Australia in March 2027 according to the Future Tour Program. However, as per the latest media report, the hosts want to reschedule the series for August- September of 2026. Notably, the proposal came as Australia are planning to host two Test matches in Melbourne, including a special Test against England in the summer of 2026-27, conducted as part of their 150th anniversary. In addition, CA is also looking to extend their three-game Test series versus New Zealand which is scheduled ahead of the series against Bangladesh.

"They (CA) have requested us to reschedule it (tour for Test series in 2027) but it is still under discussion. They have got a plan to celebrate their 150-year anniversary and that is a national commitment and due to that they want to reschedule the Test series against us and working on that," BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzzz.

Bangladesh have participated in only one Test series in Australia, which took place in 2003 and consisted of two games since achieving Test status. In 2018, Bangladesh were slated to play two Tests and three ODIs in Australia, but the tour was revoked due to broadcaster indifference to the series.

In 2015, Australia declined to travel to Bangladesh citing security concerns. The series was eventually played in 2017, marking the last Test encounter between the two sides in that format. Additionally, a planned series in 2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Australia are currently gearing up for a three-match Test series against Pakistan, with the first Test scheduled to commence at the Optus Stadium in Perth starting on December 14, Thursday. Subsequent matches will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Sydney Cricket Ground, respectively.
