Cricket has given Karun Nair a second chance, but he's not making the most out of it: Aakash Chopra

The Delhi capitals have lost their second consecutive game against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. There has been a lot of criticism towards the Capitals and one of their key players in Karun Nair who has not exactly shown the same consistency he has shown in the domestic circuit.

There might have been many tactics that might have been questionable from the Axar Patel-led side but the form of Karun Nair has also been questioned by some experts which also include the likes of cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra . Notably, Chopra has brought up to light that despite getting the second chance in cricket, the Vidarbha batter has failed to churn the maximum results out of it, with his stint with DC in IPL 2025. The former cricketer further reckoned that only one big knock in the entire season is not enough, and the 33-year-old will have to score consistently.

“The start wasn't good. You (KKR) played Anukul Roy for Faf du Plessis. He didn't trap Faf but dismissed Abishek Porel. Vaibhav Arora got Karun Nair out, and I ask a question. Cricket has given you a second chance, but you are not making the most of it," Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

“You have played one good knock and affected one or two good run-outs, and shown a few glimpses that you can actually go on, but big knocks are not coming, and you are batting at the top of the order. You are getting a chance to bat at No. 3. Then Rahul's run-out. I think that was the game-changing moment. When Faf and Stubbs got out, I thought this game was over," Chopra added.

You got wickets, but it was a little too late: Chopra

The other tactical error Chopra brought up was DC not using the spinners in the first six overs at all. According to the 47-year-old, the spinners should have been introduced in the powerplay overs itself, since the pacers were going for runs at the start.

“You decided to bowl after winning the toss. Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz started to thrash you, and you didn't show spin at all in the first six overs. You don't bring the spinners, and that, in my opinion, was a mistake. If you had brought spinners, there would have been chances to pick up wickets. You got wickets, but it was a little too late," the former KKR opener said.
