Plenty of cricket happens in the UK region which is undoubtedly a powerhouse across the globe. Therefore, many scenarios come into factor while the game is played for over a hundred years now. And in the past few months, something else has been bothering the players which derails the concept of the world as a global village. Yes! It is the burning issue of racism which has cast doubts on the way cricket boards and the way some players conduct themselves on and off the field when it comes to discrimination.

Not long ago, the English county, Yorkshire, have been dealing with the issue of discrimination where even the former England skipper Michael Vaughan had to undergo hearings only to get a clean chit in the matter. But there is one more nation which has been under fire in the neighbourhood with the issue of racism. It is none other than Cricket Scotland. The nation was rocked by a grave discrimination report a few months back that forced Anjan Luthra to resign.

In the latest development, Scotland have appointed Pete Fitzboyden as their interim chief executive and will replace Gordon Arthur with immediate effect. Notably, Fitzboyden joined on a six-month contract basis after Arthur wished to resign earlier. Speaking of Fitzboyden, he has been in interim roles at Cycling UK and Badminton England in the past along with being the former chief executive of London Sport. Recently, he was in working for the Rugby Football Union in the capacity of a consultant.

I am really looking forward to getting out and about around the country to meet people from all communities: Fitzboyden

This fresh move has been taken as a measure to promote diversity in the sport which helps in providing fair opportunities to players irrespective of their race across the nation. Fitzboyden expressed his goals ahead of his appointment by saying that he aims to rebuild trust in the community of Cricket Scotland by working on anti-racism issues so that the game and board of the country, both flourish ahead on a positive note.

"I am delighted to be joining Cricket Scotland during this important time for the sport. There remains a great deal of work to be done to build on the progress to date and deliver on our commitments to anti-racism and EDI within the sport, whilst continuing to rebuild trust within the Scottish cricketing community. I am also keen to support the ongoing enhancement of Cricket Scotland as an organisation, to ensure it flourishes for years to come," Fitzboyden as quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
"We are about to begin an exciting domestic cricket season, while our men's and women's national squads have crucial World Cup qualifying campaigns on the horizon. It promises to be an extremely busy summer, and I am really looking forward to getting out and about around the country to meet people from all communities who share my love of cricket," Fitzboyden concluded.
Furthermore, in a specialised position of hiring, Cricket Scotland have moved closer to announcing a specialised head for the 'Anti Racism' designation post the report on racism which was published last year. The role is named "Changing the Boundaries". Also, they have roped in Kash Taank as the head of EDI along with Declan Ritchie who will be working as their Sport manager. The process of bringing in a permanent chief executive is still under process as it is likely to begin during the summer with an aim to complete the hiring by December 2023.
