Cricket West Indies appoint Miles Bascombe as new Director of Cricket

Bascombe will succeed former Windies player Jimmy Adams, who has held the job for the past six years, on August 1.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the appointment of former West Indies cricketer Miles Bascombe as their new Director of Cricket on a three-year deal at a Board of Directors meeting on June 30 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. The 37-year-old will succeed former Windies player Jimmy Adams, who has held the role for the past six years, on August 1. Notably, until Bascombe takes up his new role, Graeme West, CWI High Performance Manager, will serve as interim Director of Cricket.

In addition to one T20 International (T20I) for the West Indies in 2011, Bascombe also participated in first-class cricket for the Windward Islands and the Combined Campuses and Colleges between 2007 and 2017. He is a trained coach who served as a CWI Men's Selector from 2019 to 2021 and most recently served as the Windward Islands Cricket Board's Technical Director.

Following Miles Bascombe's appointment, CWI Chief Executive Officer Johnny Grave stated that the 37-year-old stood out to the panel with his talents, experience, and deep knowledge of their cricket system, after a rigorous recruitment process. He went on to say that his love and grasp of the game at all levels are exceptional and that he is a critical thinker with a strong analytical and strategic attitude, which will be extremely valuable to the team. He is confident that Bascombe will raise the standards of their cricket system.

Bascombe, on the other hand, believes that CWI is at a crossroads and that there is an urgent need to enhance performance. He did, however, admit that the team has made tremendous progress in developing a centralized High-Performance system. The 37-year-old further stated that he is looking forward to working as a member of the CWI senior leadership team and closely with the Territorial Boards to make the required advancement that he believes will steer the team to greater success.
