CWC 2023: Hardik Pandya taken for scans after injury against Bangladesh, ruled out of first innings

India have got a major blow in their ongoing fourth fixture of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday, October 19 as star all-rounder Hardik Pandya injured himself in the first innings. In the match being played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, the Indian all-rounder tried to stop a boundary off Litton Das’s bat on the third ball of the ninth over.

However, he twisted his ankle and fell awkwardly on the pitch. Pandya was seen in excruciating pain as the physio came running in to take a look and taped his ankle. The 30-year-old was taken off the field as Virat Kohli had to come to bowl in his place.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Pandya has been taken for scans and will not come to bowl or field any further in the match. Notably, he has batted only once in the tournament so far in the first game against Australia where he scored an unbeaten 11* off 8 balls. With the ball, he’s performed exceptionally having picked five wickets from four innings at an average of 22.60 and an economy of 6.84.

Meanwhile, after Pandya went off the field, star India batter Virat Kohli came in to bowl the last three balls to complete the over. The entire crowd at the stadium was sent into a frenzy as Kohli rolled his arm over after six years in ODIs.

Tanzid Hasan scores his first ODI fifty

Coming back to the match, after opting to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a great start as openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das put on 93 runs for the first wicket off 88 balls. Hasan went on to score his first half-century in ODIs as he played a brilliant knock of 51 off 43 balls with the help of five fours and five sixes in his innings.

Kuldeep Yadav managed to get India’s first breakthrough as he trapped Hasan in front of the stumps in the 15^th over. After the good opening stand, India managed to get wickets quickly as Bangladesh were 138/4 after 28 overs.
