India and Bangladesh are locking horns in Match 17 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday, October 19 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. After opting to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a great start as their openers added 93 runs for the first wicket. However, they lost their way in the middle being reduced to 179/5 after 37.2 overs.

India’s top-notch fielding coupled with immaculate bowling helped them pull things back as they managed to get quick wickets in the middle overs. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was seen at his absolute best as he first picked two wickets in his ten-over spell and later took a breathtaking catch at point.

The southpaw completed a spectacular grab diving to his right in the 43rd over of the innings to dismiss well-set Mushfiqur Rahim (38 off 46). After completing the catch, Jadeja was seen gesturing towards India’s fielding coach T Dilip to award him the best fielder medal after the match. Later, Umpire Marais Erasmus was also spotted mentioning the same to Dilip.

Notably, the Indian fielding coach has been awarding the best fielder medal after every match of the ongoing World Cup. The coveted medal has been won by Virat Kohli, Shardul Thakur and KL Rahul in the first three matches respectively. In the ongoing fixture, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are the strong contenders for it.

Bangladesh score 256/8 in first innings

Meanwhile, Jadeja also starred with the ball as he finished with figures of 2/38 after ten overs. The left-arm spinner first dismissed Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 20th over by trapping him in front of the stumps. He further got rid of well-set Litton Das (66 off 82) in the 28th over to give a big blow to Bangladesh.

They finally finished their innings on 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Apart from Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah (2/41) and Mohammed Siraj (2/60) also picked up two wickets each for India.
