Naveen ul Haq came in to bat in the 49th over and played his first shot towards Virat Kohli at fine leg.
India and Afghanistan are locking horns in Match 09 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted 272/8 in their allotted 50 over as captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (80 off 88) and Azmatullah Omarzai (62 off 69) played magnificent knocks.
Apart from the riveting cricketing action on the field, the crowd even got to witness the much-awaited face-off between Virat Kohli and Naveen ul Haq as the Afghanistan seamer walked out to bat in the 49th over of the innings. Notably, the two had a heated verbal argument during Match 43 of IPL 2023 and crowd was expecting something similar this time around as well.

As soon as Naveen walked into bat he was welcomed with loud chants of Kohli! Kohli! all around the stadium. Former India cricketer turned commentator Ravid Shastri also mentioned about the excitement in the crowd as soon as Naveen walked out to the middle as he played his first ball towards Kohli at fine leg.

Naveen scored 9 off 8 to guide Afghanistan to a score of 272/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Later on, in the second innings, Kohli and Naveen had a face-off as the young seamer came on to bowl the 20th over of the Indian innings. He made the Indian batter edge one which flew through the empty spaces in the slips and went towards third man.

Kohli and Naveen sorted their differences in the second innings
Further ahead in the innings, the duo were involved in a heartwarming moment as Kohli requested his home crowd to stop going after Naveen by chanting his name (Kohli). Following the incident, the duo were seen exchanging pleasantries as they put their differences behind them.
Meanwhile, India went on to win the match by eight wickets as they chased down the target of 272 in 35 overs courtesy of sensational knocks from Rohit Sharma (131 off 84), Kohli (55* off 56) and Ishan Kishan (47 off 47).
