The cricketing fraternity has been facing rumours on the front of a possible retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, amidst their poor run of form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In fact, the Indian duo failing to put up a show has been a major reason behind India's 1-2 trail in the series against the Aussies. As a result, a lot of experts have started questioning their place in the national team.

The talks around the retirement are certain, but their replacements in the future squad is something that a lot of people are yet to ponder upon. When asked the same, former Australia cricketer Darren Lehmann was of the opinion that there is not much to worry about Indian cricket's future even if Rohit and Kohli decide to call it a day from international cricket.

“Look, whenever they decide to give it away and whatever happens in next few days, they have been great players for India over a long period of time, There is so much depth in Indian cricket I won't worry too much," said Lehmann as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Lehmann, who has coached Australia in the past, has highlighted that the talent the Indian youngsters possess, their cricket is going to remain in safe hands.

“Whenever these two guys decide to retire, there are so many talented youngsters that Indian cricket will be in good stead," the 54-year-old added.

Rohit-Kohli eye Sydney showing

Rohit and Virat Kohli are not having the best of series down under, abysmal, in fact. While Virat is averaging under 30 and has suffered a string of low scores after his unbeaten century at Perth, Rohit has currently attained an average of 6.20 which is now the lowest average for a Test captain touring Australia.

India's seniormost batters will be hoping to come afresh in the New Year's Test, which is scheduled to be played from January 03, 2025 at the picturesque Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), in Sydney. The Pink Test will hold a high significance for the Indian duo, as it might arguably decide their fate in the Test squad going forward.
