Former Australian cricket coach Darren Lehmann has decided to step away from his coaching roles with the Brisbane Heat and Queensland Bulls and be part radio commentary job. Lehmann's coaching career started with Queensland in 2010, he then led the Brisbane Heat to their inaugural Big Bash League title in just their second season.

His success didn't stop there, as he went on to coach the Australian national team from 2013 to 2018, during which time Australia achieved a 5-0 Ashes whitewash and clinched the 2015 World Cup.

Returning to domestic cricket in 2019, Lehmann continued to contribute to Queensland cricket, most recently as an assistant coach. His final contribution to this role was being part of the coaching staff that guided the Brisbane Heat to their second BBL title earlier this year.

“I’ve had a great time over the journey, with so many fond memories from that time. I wish nothing but the best for the future for all at QC and the Heat and thank each and every member of staff and the playing group for making my time at QC so enjoyable and fulfilling," Lehmann told in a statement released by Brisbane Heat.

Darren has been a positive and proactive influence: Terry Svenson

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson praised Lehmann's contributions and mentioned that he has been positive and had a big impact on cricket.

“Throughout his long involvement with us, whether as a team coach with the Bulls and the Heat or assisting individual players with their development, Darren has been a positive and proactive influence on cricket in the State," he said.

While Lehmann's departure comes as a surprise, especially with a year left on his contract, it opens up new opportunities for both him and Queensland Cricket and will work alongside head coach Johan Botha and assistant coach Andy Bichel.

For Lehmann, the move to ABC Sport's commentary team allows him to share his vast knowledge and insights with cricket fans in a different capacity.
